    Responsibilities

    Mayo Clinic Health System (MCHS) in Eau Claire, WI, seeks a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to join their Orthopedic Center's Hand and Plastic surgery departments. The Hand Division currently consists of two fellowship-trained Hand surgeons and one established Physician Assistant. We are actively recruiting for an additional surgeon. The Plastic surgery division currently consists of 2 fellowship trained surgeons and one established Physician Assistant. The Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant will work with both the hand and plastics department in clinical as well as surgical practice. Assessment and treatment of adult and pediatric patients is expected.

    The position will be split between the Hand and Plastics surgery departments evenly working with 1 surgeon who splits her time evenly between both departments. This would be a dynamic position with excellent opportunities for education and growth as well as independence.

    The Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant will work in collaboration and/or under the supervision and direction of the physician to provide care that is timely, effective, efficient, safe, equitable and patient centered. Treats patients in the hospital and clinic setting. Performs in the role of surgical first assistant in the OR. Works in collaboration with physicians and other health care professionals to provide comprehensive assessment; orders and interprets diagnostic tests; prescribes pharmacological agents and non-pharmacological treatments and therapies; promotes wellness and prevention; performs teaching and counseling for patients and families; assesses patient needs; develops treatment plans, implements and evaluates results; communicates with the healthcare team, patients, families, (employers, insurers, agencies, etc. as appropriate) to coordinate a patient centered plan of care. Applies principles of continuous improvement to all aspects of the job performance.

    Qualifications

    Nurse Practitioner: Masters-prepared graduate of an accredited school of nursing and Nurse Practitioner program. Current WI RN and APRN license and certification as a Family Nurse Practitioner. Prefer experience treating orthopedic/Plastic surgery conditions and/or surgical first assisting experience. Licensure must allow NP to see patients from pediatrics through geriatrics.

    Physician Assistant: Graduate of accredited Physician Assistant program with current PA certification by NCCPA and registration as a PA by the WI State Board of Medical Practice. Prefer experience treating orthopedic/Plastic surgery conditions and/or surgical first assisting.

    Current BLS certification. DEA required.

    Additional Qualifications:

    Ability to read and communicate effectively in English both written and verbal. Additional languages preferred. Basic computer knowledge. Specialty (or sub-specialty) physical examination, diagnosis and treatment skills for Orthopedics patients preferred. Ability to work well with diverse professionals as part of an integrated health care team, perform the range of duties in a variety of work settings, and perform well in stressful situations. Ability and willingness to learn new skills and methods. Proven dependability. Basic improvement concepts and techniques. Flexibility to meet department needs.

    Schedule Details

    Position includes clinic, OR, hospital rounding, and on call responsibilities. Clinic and OR hours may vary between 7:00am-5:00pm.

    Weekend Schedule

    Call is evenly distributed on a yearly basis. NP/PA's do not take primary call on night and weekends but are expected to be available. Travel to an outreach clinic may be expected.
