    Job Summary:

    • Managing a mouse colony of complex transgenic mouse models, includes set-up of breeding pairs, performing all genotyping procedures, and precise maintenance of animal records.

    • Perform histological and molecular & cellular techniques such as preparing animal tissues for sectioning, staining, and imaging, western blotting, ELISAs, and qPCR.

    • Work with the team to conduct animal studies including study preparation, data collection, and analysis.

    • Perform in vivo experiments, including routine procedures, such as health monitoring, blood collection, drug administration, and necropsy.

    • Assist in updating laboratory standard operating procedures.

    Entry Level

    • Bachelor's degree in biology, molecular biology, chemistry, genetics, or related field.

    • Substitution: A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor's degree on a year for year basis.

    Intermediate Level

    • Bachelor's degree in biology, molecular biology, chemistry, genetics, or related field.

    • One (1) year professional level research experience.

    Senior Level

    • Experience leading or working within teams to conduct experiments.

    • Experience developing laboratory standard operating procedures.

    • Two (2) years of experience in an experimental or wet laboratory.

    • Mouse and rat basic handling training and experience.

    Drs. Teixeira and Bethea's work focus on various aspects of disease pathogenesis with particular emphasis on obesity and diabetes. Specifically, Dr. Bethea's research uses rodent models to study the role of the gut-brain-axis in regulation of metabolism in health, obesity, and type 2 diabetes, while Dr. Teixeira`s research uses rodent models to study the role of thyroid hormone on the metabolism.
