  • The Hillman Center for Pediatric Transplantation at UPMC Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh is seeking a pediatric psychologist with clinical experience in solid organ transplantation to support a large, multi-organ academic medical center. Preference will be given to candidates with 10+ years of experience in independent practice.

    About the Position

    This position is fully embedded within transplant. Our center is actively prioritizing the advancement of psychosocial outcomes at this time. As a result, there is significant opportunity for program development and if interested, clinical research.

    The clinical scope of the position includes

    • Evaluation and psychosocial assessment for readiness for solid organ transplantation and candidacy on UNOS transplant waiting list

    • Psychological follow-up for patients and families as needed and screening during annual post-transplant follow-up

    • Active interdisciplinary collaboration with the respective transplant teams to provide excellent care and improve the quality of life of patients and families

    Responsibilities

    • Screening for psychiatric issues and facilitation of mental health treatment as needed

    • Screening for health literacy and cognitive impairments

    • Reviewing and mobilizing family support and other resources

    • Evaluating candidate/family support for surgical procedures to optimize adherence with treatment

    • Managing psychopathology and substance abuse risks for patients and referral of any identified concerns related to family or support caregiver to appropriate services

    • Assessing motivation to improve, barriers to adherence, and stage of change

    • Applicants must hold a doctoral degree in clinical psychology (PhD or PsyD), with significant experience in pediatric psychology and in solid organ transplantation specifically

    • Licensed and/or license eligible to practice clinical psychology independently in Pennsylvania

    • Required completion of a post-doctoral fellowship preferably in or with a prominent case load of solid organ pediatric transplant patients
