  • GENERAL PURPOSE

    Using clinical judgment and available resources, approves the ordering of medications for patients treated at the medical center. Oversees and directly contributes to compounding, preparation and dispensing of medications for patients of SMH in accordance with all applicable state and federal laws and regulations for Pharmacy practice. Supervises pharmacy technicians.

    SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

    1. The Level III pharmacist has direct supervision and management responsibilities specific to a functional area within the department.

    2. Schedules staff in relevant area of supervision in coordination with other managers and Associate Director to provide adequate coverage to meet workload demands.

    3. Participates in the interview and hiring decisions for staff members assigned to the relevant area of supervision. Also is responsible for identifying measures to maintain or improve employee satisfaction, reward and recognition to promote employee retention.

    4. Completes annual and on-going evaluations of performance of employees in relevant area of supervision. Addresses performance problems proactively, establishes action plans with employee, and follow-up evaluation and documentation completed as scheduled.

    5. Handles conflict in a direct, timely and professional manner. Disciplinary action, when required, is handled confidentially and is well documented with an action plan for correction when appropriate.

    6. Participates regularly and routinely in interdepartmental meetings, projects and policy making. This is necessary to successfully conduct the business of the functional unit under their supervision and management. Their Associate Director should be aware of all ongoing interdepartmental planning and activities, but may not be directly involved.

    7. Delegates tasks to those under their supervision. Establishes a plan and expectations for delegated duties, and follow-up to make sure they are being completed according to the plan.

    8. Tracks and reports workload statistics and other vital operational data to their Associate Director on an established schedule. The statistics/data to be tracked and the frequency of reporting will be agreed upon with the Associate Director.

    9. Performs budget management and planning relevant to their area of supervision. Manages budget performance improvement goals and projects as appropriate for their area.

    10. Performs duties of Level II Outpatient Pharmacist.

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    Bachelor of Science degree in Pharmacy or Pharm D preferred. New York State Pharmacy License and interest in hospital practice. A Level III pharmacist will typically have a minimum of 5 years of acute care pharmacy practice experience combined with a minimum of 2 years of progressive and relevant professional experience, and/or a graduate degree in business management or other relevant field or a residency in hospital pharmacy management combined with a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience.

    Pay Range

    Pay Range: $129,501 - $194,293 Annually

    The referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum compensation for this job. Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job's compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations.
