  • What You Will Do

    The Pollution Prevention Program post-master's position (GRA) offers a paid year-round internship for candidates who have completed their master's degree in a science, engineering, sustainability, or business degree program. The position provides mentoring, hands-on technical experience, and professional development opportunities through a formalized work plan complementing the student's chosen area of study.

    Example of LANL projects in the Pollution Prevention program include, but are not limited to:

    • Developing improved purchasing practices to meet federal acquisition requirements for the site.

    • Reduction of nuclear waste inventory through process improvement initiatives.

    • Socially and environmentally responsible end-of-life disposal path for materials such as electronics and batteries.

    • Investigation into and prevention of emerging contaminants, or chemicals of concern, such as per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) and dioxin/furans.

    • Climate change - reduction of site greenhouse gas footprint, water resource planning, and climate resilience planning.

    What You Need

    Minimum Job Requirements:

    • Demonstrated problem-solving skills and willingness to tackle projects outside of your comfort zone/area of expertise.

    • Completion of a master's degree program in a science, engineering, sustainability, or business discipline. Examples of a degree program might include Environmental Engineering, Environment and Sustainability, Economics, Biology, or Chemistry.

    • Must have awarded a master's degree within the past three years but have not yet been accepted into another master's program or a PhD program. Post-Master's interns may remain in this category for up to two years.

    Education/Experience: Position requires a master's degree completed within the last three years.

    Desired Qualifications:

    • Passionate about the environment and environmental improvement

    • Demonstrated knowledge in the following areas:

    • source reduction, or waste avoidance AND/OR

    • Process mapping and/or process improvement AND/OR

    • Another area of environmental improvement unique to the candidate's education or job experience

    Work Location: The work location for this position is hybrid. Hybrid is defined as working partially onsite/partially offsite but within 2 hours ground commute of this location. All work locations are at the discretion of management and can change at any time with appropriate notice.

    Additional Details

    Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating the employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2 (~~~) .     No Clearance: Position does not require a security clearance. Selected candidates will be subject to drug testing and other pre-employment background checks.
