As demand continues to grow for power and energy management engineering in both the Controls & Avionics Solutions (CAS) and Power & Propulsion Solutions (PPS) business areas, the Engineering function has identified opportunities for greater alignment and efficiency in this support. The newly formed Power & Energy Management (P&EM) group within U.S. Controls Engineering , will allow associated teams to have a common focus and greater agility.     We are seeking an Engineering manager with experience in design, analysis, test and integration of motor drives, grid tie systems and exportable power as well as high power DC/DC converters, 3-Phase AC Inverters. This individual will be a discipline manager for Power Electronics and Motor Control engineers within the Power & Energy Management Group.

    Duties and responsibilities include the following:

    • Discipline manager to a technical team of Power & Energy management engineers, with responsibilities including mentoring and talent development, performance management, capability advancement, knowledge transfer, project staffing, and other people leadership responsibilities.

    • Strong systems design experience with Isolated and Non-Isolated High Power DC/DC converter topologies (greater than 10kW)

    • Strong systems design experience with High Power AC inverters and Rectifiers (greater than 10kW)

    • Experience with System level DC link interactions between a High Voltage Battery and the main traction Inverter.

    • Strong systems design and architecture experience with Control strategies for power conversion for High Power DC-DC, Rectifiers and Inverters.

    • Strong experience with analyzing customer requirements and writing detailed systems level requirements and architecting the systems using Model Based Design tools.

    • Ability to develop strategic technical and product roadmaps for both technology and business.

    • Ability to work and lead a team in a cross-functional, matrix organized dynamic work environment to fulfill internal and external customers on time with minimal defects or issues.

    • Ability to work with software and firmware-controlled power converters and power systems. Must be willing to work in a high voltage / high power lab environment.

    • Bachelor s degree in electrical engineering or related field.

    • 10 years of experience in power electronics related design and development, including strong understanding of DC DC converters and motor drives with power levels of up to 500kW, gate drivers, analog circuitry, and magnetics.

    • Experience in full lifecycle product development including component level requirements and design, component and system-level integration, validation, and verification.

    • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including technical writing skills: capable of creating engineering requirements and system architecture documentation.

    • Demonstrated experience taking programs from a concept phase to prototyping to full scale production stage.

    • Demonstrated ability to lead, motivate, and grow teams of 15 engineers.

    • Experience with Requirements Management tools and Configuration Management and Problem Reporting tools.

    • Master s degree in electrical engineeringor related field

    • Experience growing the technical capability of a dedicated engineering team

    • Proven ability to drive process improvement, tool enhancement, and cost takeout initiatives.

    • 15 years of experience with design of DC DC converters and motor drives with power levels of up to 500kW and DC link voltages to 1000V or higher.

    • Experience with Power Magnetics Design and electromagnetic concepts

    • Experience with partial discharge

    • Knowledgeable of AC machines

    • Knowledgeable with Vector Control strategies and Field Oriented Control

    • Experience in modeling, simulation, and testing of power electronics: SPICE/ LTSPICE, Mathcad, MATLAB/Simulink, Ansys Electronic desktops.

    • Demonstrated ability to engage technology developers in the industry to track and apply emerging technologies to innovative power electronics and motor controls designs.

    • Familiarity/Experience with power magnetics design, machine control and EMI control.

    • Familiarity/Experience with Filters for importable and exportable sine wave power for grid tie and other applications

    • Familiarity/Experience with Architectures and circuit design for MOSFET, Si IGBT and SiC/GAN devices.

    Pay Information

    Full-Time Salary Range: $127900 - $217400

    Please note: This range is based on our market pay structures. However, individual salaries are determined by a variety of factors including, but not limited to: business considerations, local market conditions, and internal equity, as well as candidate qualifications, such as skills, education, and experience.
