  • Overview

    In this role, the patient Pre-op interview and education is completed in-person with the APRN during the clinic visit for their anesthesia assessment. At this time, the nurse will complete the health history review, provide Pre-OP education and complete labs and other testing prior to surgery.

    Responsibilities

    No call, holidays or weekends. Shift start times will flex depending on clinic coverage days. The shift will be scheduled for 8 hours, either 8:00am-4:30pm or 9:00am-5:30pm.

    This is a hybrid position calling preop patients for surgery along with covering the pre-anesthesia testing clinic at St. Francis Medical Center and Good Samaritan Hospital.

    1. Identify the care and resources required for accessing hospital services for surgical, procedural, non-invasive diagnostic, invasive diagnostic, admitted, and clinical procedure patients.

    2. Evaluates the appropriateness of levels of care, diagnostic testing and clinical procedures.

    3. Provides timely, accurate and complete medical record documentation and data collection initiating the electronic medical record and patient assessment clinical documentation.

    4. Facilitates the initiation of anesthesia orders.

    5. Establishes positive working relationships with physicians and their office staff with a focus on customer service and ease of access to hospital services.

    6. Applies knowledge of on line scheduling programs, nursing documentation programs, communication programs and online data retrieval.

    7. Collects clinical history and evaluates existing diagnostic findings to initiate clinical protocols for additional diagnostic testing by interviewing the patient or care giver.

    8. Provides patient information, preparation and education for impending surgery, tests, procedures, admissions through the patient interview. Identifies patient/care giver learning needs and initiates and provides for age appropriate education.

    9. Effectively functions as a liaison for patients, families, physicians, office staff and the patient care team. Promptly investigates and resolves problems or concerns, or refers them to a higher authority.

    10. Exercises professional nursing judgment. Maintains a professional attitude with patients, visitors, physicians, office staff and hospital personnel.

    11. Provides support and assistance to co-workers. Assists in the orientation of new staff.

    12. Performs duties according to department specific expectations

    Qualifications

    Graduate of RN Program

    BLS through American Heart Association

    Knowledge and compliance with applicable Joint Commission, Federal, State, and agency laws, regulations, guidelines and professional standards.

    Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality with sensitive patient and hospital information.

    Ability to delegate, resolve conflicts, handle individual and group interactions, time management, critical thinking skills and stress management.

    Strong interpersonal skills.

    Strong verbal and written communication skills.

    Proficient computer and keyboard skills.

    Excellent Telephone and customer service skills

    Organizational, priority setting and problem solving skills.

    Ability to provide service to a diverse population of patients, and the ability to communicate and work with people from a variety of age-groups, social strata and ethnic background

    Pay Range

    $26.25 - $38.05 /hour
