    The Maritime/Land Systems & Sensors (MLSS) Field Engineering & Services (FES) organization is seeking a cleared or clear-able, experienced multi-disciplined Principal or Sr. Principal Mixed-Signal Electronics Design Engineer to join our small interdisciplinary team of design engineers at our Oxnard CA location.

    What You'll Get To Do:

    This role involves full life-cycle product development from system concept and requirements development through design, implementation, prototyping, production, test verification, field support, operator training, and mission support. As part of the field engineering team, you will also have the opportunity to deploy with our mission systems and provide the following support to our military/government end users:

    • Troubleshoot Hardware/Software issues;

    • Assist with system and component maintenance; and

    • Recommend system improvements including hardware, software, or procedural updates.

    Roles and Responsibilities:

    • Design custom mixed-signal electronic circuits for maritime applications utilizing commercially available DACs, ADCs, and microcontrollers.

    • Research advancements in technology to provide innovative solutions with overarching goal to improve performance while reducing SWaP (size, weight, and power).

    • Selection of components to meet technical performance requirements; creation of parts lists for new assemblies; and liaison with Procurement Team to ensure parts are available for prototyping and production.

    • Troubleshoot and debug prototypes and production units.

    • Integration of Hardware & Software into a functioning system.

    • Generate engineering change notices when needed, update models / drawings, and release appropriate documentation into Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) databases.

    • Work under general direction to independently determine and develop viable solutions.

    Basic Qualifications for Principal Electronics Design Engineer:

    • B.S. in Electrical Engineering or similar STEM field with a minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience, or a Master's degree in STEM with a minimum of 3 years of related work experience.

    • Extensive experience in analog, digital, and mixed-signal electronic system design including circuit simulation and worst-case circuit analysis.

    • Design experience in board-level analog, low noise, filters, shielding, EMI/EMC, and RF/acoustic sensors (e.g., SONAR).

    • Experience developing embedded firmware and software for data acquisition and control applications using C / C++ / C# for microcontrollers.

    • Test and troubleshooting of electronics and electrical systems related to analog/mixed-signal, RF, data acquisition, communications, and power conversion/distribution.

    • Experience with electrical schematic capture and board layout tools such as CADSTAR, PADS, DxDesigner, Expedition, Cadence, or similar tools.

    • Well versed in hands-on use of laboratory test equipment including oscilloscopes, function generators, DMM, BERT, power analyzers, network analyzers, and signal analyzers.

    • Active DoD Top Secret clearance, and ability to obtain and maintain a TS/SCI security clearance. Clearance and customer approval are required prior to start date. US Citizenship is a bona fide requirement for this position.

    • B.S. in Electrical Engineering or similar STEM field with a minimum of 9 years of relevant work experience, or a Master's degree in STEM with a minimum of 7 years of related work experience.

    • Extensive experience in board-level analog, digital, and mixed-signal electronic system design including circuit simulation and worst-case circuit analysis.

    • Design experience in analog, low noise, filters, shielding, EMI/EMC, and RF/acoustic sensors (e.g., SONAR).

    • Experience developing embedded firmware and software for data acquisition and control applications using C / C++ / C# for microcontrollers.

    • Test and troubleshooting of electronics and electrical systems related to analog/mixed-signal, RF, data acquisition, communications, and power conversion/distribution.

    • Experience with electrical schematic capture and board layout tools such as CADSTAR, PADS, DxDesigner, Expedition, Cadence, or similar tools.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Demonstrated excellence in delivering fully functional embedded systems for data acquisition and control applications including intuitive operator interface.

    • Proficient with circuit design simulation tools such as Spice, Excel, MATLAB, etc.

    • High Density Interconnect PWB design experience.

    • Complex, high-speed, high-density system cabling design experience.

    • Experience utilizing and troubleshooting CAN and other serial protocols.

    • Experience utilizing and troubleshooting high-speed protocols such as PCIExpress, Gigabit Ethernet, TCP/UDP (sockets).

    • Experience with Visual ~~~, WPF, Keil, MPLAB, GIT and/or SourceSafe.

    • Experience with drafting/mechanical CAD tools such as AutoCad, SolidWorks, ProE, or similar.

    • Strong verbal & written communication and presentation skills.

    • Active TS/SCI with Polygraph.

    Salary Range: $107,300 - $160,900

    Salary Range 2: $133,000 - $199,600

    The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

    Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
