    POSITION SUMMARY

    NMR Spectroscopist/Structure Elucidation Scientist

    An opening is available for a Reaction Monitoring Flow NMR Scientist in the Structure Elucidation Group, Pharmaceutical Sciences Small Molecule Division of Pfizer Worldwide Research and Development in Groton, CT.

    The Pharmaceutical Sciences Small Molecule Structure Elucidation Group supports all areas of drug development. It is responsible for the characterization of drug candidates, formulations, excipients, degradation products and impurities as well as reaction monitoring, developing kinetic models and in situ quantification via NMR. The group interacts with technology and project groups throughout the entirety of Pfizer. In addition to extensive research NMR capabilities, our group also supports a small open access NMR facility. The position will be heavily focused on reaction monitoring, reaction kinetics, structure elucidation and characterization of small organic molecules.

    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Reaction monitoring, developing kinetics models, quantification, elucidate structures and solve scientific questions for small molecules of pharmaceutical interest using multidimensional liquids NMR.

    • Work within a team of disparate scientific disciplines as a functional member (e.g., working closely with mass spectrometrists, NMR spectroscopists, purification scientists, organic chemists, etc.) as a subject matter expert.

    • The individual will be expected to provide strong technical and strategic input and to ensure efficient and timely execution of deliverables.

    • Act as NMR liaison/subject matter expert at portfolio project team meetings.

    • Investigate and implement novel NMR experiments and technologies.

    • Write technical documents.

    • Communicate routinely with chemists within Small Molecule Pharmaceutical Sciences as well as other divisions throughout Pfizer globally.

    • Provide open access NMR support for over 100 chemists and engineers.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

    • The successful candidate will have a Ph.D. degree in chemistry (strong preference of Organic chemistry) with 5+ years of relevant NMR experience and expertise in small molecule NMR.

    PREFERRED QUALIIFICATIONS

    • A strong understanding of the theory and application of organic chemistry

    • A strong understanding of the theory and application of NMR spectroscopy.

    • Experience in structural elucidation of small molecules using solution NMR.

    • Knowledge of Bruker and Varian NMR systems.

    • Pharmaceutical industry experience desirable.

    • Proven track record of technology implementation as demonstrated by publication/presentation records.

    • Strong communication skills and a demonstrated ability to carry out independent research are required.

    • Strong interest and motivation to learn new technologies and concepts is expected.

    • Experience with NMR processing software (Topspin, Mnova, ACD).

    • Experience with chromatography, mass spectrometry, and molecular modeling is beneficial.

    The annual base salary for this position ranges from $93,500.00 to $155,900.00. In addition, this position is eligible for participation in Pfizer's Global Performance Plan with a bonus target of 12.5% of the base salary and eligibility to participate in our share based long term incentive program.
