  • Our Millport, AL lumber mill has an immediate opening for a Production Superintendent to lead the Dry End Department. This is a full-time, salaried exempt position that reports directly to the Unit Manager. As Dry End Superintendent, you will be responsible for safely planning, organizing, delivering operational objectives, and coordinating with Maintenance to drive continuous improvement in the manufacturing process for the Kilns, Planer Mill, and Shipping departments. Our mill produces high-quality Southern Yellow Pine lumber used for residential construction throughout the Southern and Eastern USA. We have a reputation for manufacturing excellence and continuous improvement.

    Key Functions:

    • Role model safety standards and on-the-job behavior by living Weyerhaeuser core principles of integrity, fairness, creating a positive work environment, and ensuring open communication among associates.

    • Actively lead and participate in the plant safety program including implementing, managing and enforcing safety policies,

    • procedures, practices and projects.

    • Optimizing functional area including production, scheduling, and asset utilization.

    • Control and improve productivity and reduce/manage costs.

    • Manage the daily activities of the facility to meet unit goals (metric and financial).

    • Lead the planning of production activities and budgets and coordinate maintenance activities with the maintenance team.

    • Ensure the effective management and development of the work force.

    • Fully utilize performance management tools for leadership growth and development.

    • Participate in the development of capital and project plans and activities as well as annual plan (budget).

    • Understands and supports compliance with all applicable environmental, federal, state, and local laws & regulations

    • Bachelor's degree in Business, Forestry, or related technical field is preferred.

    • Minimum of 3 years leadership experience in a manufacturing/industrial environment

    • Demonstrated experience in safely leading a systematized process, preventative maintenance, and process improvements in productivity, cost, etc.

    • Excellent communication skills

    • Strong computer, mathematical, and analytical skills

    • Proficient in Microsoft Office software

    • Experience and proven ability to lead teams in a non-union environment and promote a culture of trust and collaboration

    • Excellent interpersonal skills - conflict management, coaching, supportive feedback, and problem solving. Ability to function as an effective team member

    • Strong mechanical and technical knowledge. Demonstrated track record of success in a complex and fast paced environment

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Knowledge and experience in lumber manufacturing

    • General knowledge of lumber drying practices

    • General knowledge of shipping and sales

    • Experience in SAP

    • Experience with QC/Grading processes and systems

    Preferred Skills:

    • Knowledge and experience in lumber manufacturing

    • Solid knowledge of Continuous Drying Technologies

    • Solid knowledge of USNR High Speed Planer Technologies

    • Solid Knowledge of Lucidyne Auto Grading Technologies

    • Solid knowledge of lumber drying practices

    • Solid knowledge of shipping and sales

    • Experience in SAP and Maintenance Systems

    • Experience with QC/Grading processes and systems

    What We Offer:

    Compensation: This role is eligible for our annual merit-increase program, and we are targeting a salary range of $95,000 to $156,500 based on your level of skills, qualifications, and experience. You will also be eligible for our Annual Incentive Program, which offers a cash bonus targeting 10-15% of base pay. Potential plan funding may range from zero to two times that target. Relocation package is offered for this role.

    Paid Time Off or Vacation: We provide eligible employees who are scheduled to work 25 hours or more per week with paid vacation for up to 3 weeks to use during your first year of employment. In addition, after being employed for six months, eligible employees begin to accrue vacation for future use. We also recognize eleven paid holidays per year, providing a total of 88 hours along with paid parental leave for all full-time employees.
