    The School of Medicine, Department of Medicine, Division of Medical Oncology has an opening for a full-time Professor in the Thoracic Oncology Program.

    Position Emphasis:

    To recruit an outstanding mid-career to senior academic physician scientist to join a robust and growing thoracic cancer oncology program. The ideal candidate will have strong clinical skills in thoracic medical oncology and have an interest in clinical and/or translational research in thoracic cancer. The final candidate will be expected to participate in and pursue leadership opportunities in the thoracic oncology program which usually includes two full days a week, outpatient clinics, rotation coverage of the once weekly multidisciplinary clinic and in-patient coverage, which is negotiable depending on certain circumstances (e.g., protected time for research). Attendance at the once weekly tumor board and clinical trials research conference, active engagement with the Thoracic Oncology Research Initiative (TORI), and collaborations with basic, translational and population research colleagues. Duties and responsibilities will include direct patient care and clinical research, plus an expectation to pursue and encourage in their colleagues' original research beyond enrolling in already designed and sponsored clinical trials. The candidate must have excellent clinical leadership skills and be able to work with a large team of clinicians, administrators, and staff across multiple sites of care and in a multidisciplinary format. With the current Director of Thoracic Oncology (D.R. Camidge) moving up to an Executive Director role, the candidate will be potentially eligible for the Directorship of the Thoracic Oncology Program (clinical and clinical research) and possibly other leadership positions within cancer center depending on experience and interest.

    A highly competitive lab start-up package may be offered for a physician-scientist position, to be discussed during the recruitment process. For laboratory-based research, candidates with expertise and research interest in lung cancer prevention, population science, immuno-oncology, novel targeted therapies or therapy resistance will be given high priority.

    Job Responsibilities:

    • The candidate will be expected to see patients diagnosed with or at risk for thoracic cancer two full days a week (four half day equivalents)

    • The candidate will be expected to participate on rotation for coverage of the once a week thoracic oncology multidisciplinary clinic.

    • The candidate will serve in the inpatient rotation for coverage of the medical oncology consult and/or inpatient service.

    • The candidate will serve as a mentor for clinical trainees and junior faculty in Medical Oncology and the Cancer Center

    • The candidate will be expected to enroll patients to available clinical trials and lead clinical trials, either pharma, cooperative group, and/or investigator lead, across the consortium

    • The candidate will actively engage with TORI and collaborate with basic, translational and population science colleagues.

    • As the Director of the Thoracic Oncology Program (clinical and clinical research) the following additional responsibilities exist:

    • Oversee clinical operations of the specific cancer program. This includes the multidisciplinary oversight of each area within the program and moderating tumor conferences.

    • Create and manage clinical pathways for the clinical delivery of care. This includes collaboration with UC Health System Local Disease-based Program Directors to develop a system-wide pathway for clinical care. This is to reduce care variation and improve efficiency at all access points of the system.

    • Be available to the clinical nurse navigator for the specific disease program for any specific new patient intake questions and coordination.

    • Participate in Cancer Center Operations Council for improvement of Clinical Quality, Patient Safety, Efficiency, and overall Satisfaction of the Cancer Center.

    • Work in partnership with clinical practice manager of specific clinics to enhance operational efficiency including clinic personnel issues.

    • Clinical Pathway adherence

    • Number of new analytical cases - growth

    • Participation and leadership in specific performance improvement projects

    • Attendance at local and regional cancer operations and leadership meetings

    • The candidate may also be eligible for additional leadership roles in the cancer center and would be required to fulfill the job description of any accepted designated leadership roles; to be discussed during the recruitment process for determination of expertise and interest.

    Salary and Benefits:

    The salary range ( or hiring range ) for this position has been established at $325,000 to $355,000.

    The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.

    Qualifications

    Minimum Qualifications:

    Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

    • Licensed MD or DO from accredited Institution in U.S., or equivalent, if a non-U.S. graduate, must complete ECFMG certification & be qualified to obtain a temporary CO Medical license.

    • Eligible to be credentialed by the institutional processes established for oversight for advanced professional medical practice.

    • Board certified in Oncology
