    Operating Room Nurse Skills and Expertise:

    • Responsible for maintaining sterility and safety standards in the operating room

    • Able to multi-task while assessing patients quickly, prioritize, and assist in procedures

    • Anticipate needs of the surgeon and patient

    • Demonstration of sound decision-making in emergency scenarios based on patient conditions such as vital signs, patient presentation, and assessments

    • Observe, check and monitor all equipment used during surgery

    • Conducts patient education regarding surgical procedure

    • Serves as the communication liaison to family and members of the operating team

    • Responds to life-saving situations based upon nursing standards and protocol

    • Records all care information concisely, accurately and completely, in a timely manner, in the appropriate format and on the appropriate forms

    • Prepares operating room for patient/procedure

    • Monitors patient's physical and emotional well-being throughout the care continuum

    • Responsible for positioning, responding to comfort/safety of patient

    • Provides for accurate care and handling of specimens

    • Inventories all items both pre- and post-surgery

    • Selects and handles surgical instrumentation by safely passing instruments to surgeon during the case

    • Scrubbed in nursing staff is responsible for maintaining the sterile field throughout procedure

    • Works with the team to ensure all instruments and supplies are available for each case.

    Position Compensation Range: $39.90 - $53.00 Hourly

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

    Education: Graduate of accredited nursing program, Bachelor of Science in Nursing required within 5 years of hire.

    Experience: 1 year of nursing experience. Previous OR experience desired. Will train dedicated candidates willing to learn new skills. Orientation for those with no experience lasts 5 to 6 months.

    Licensure: Licensed to Practice as a Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Virginia. American Heart Association (AHA) Health Care Provider BLS certification required.

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS

    Job requires standing for prolonged periods, frequently bending/stooping, reaching (overhead, extensive, and repetitive); Repetitive motion: computer keyboard. Proficient communicative, auditory and visual skills; Attention to detail and ability to write legibly; Ability to lift/push/pull 50 - 100lbs. May be exposed to noise, radiation, radioactive materials, blood/body fluids and infectious disease.
