  • HYBRID ELIGIBILITY

    This position works a hybrid schedule, spending time remotely and in the office in Minot, ND. The current hybrid schedule provides flexibility to collaborate in the office Tuesdays through Thursdays and work from home Mondays and Fridays. With our 9/80 feature you get time off every other Friday when you work at least 80 hours over the preceding nine days.

    POSITION SUMMARY

    Chemical Team Engineer will support the Hess Upstream Chemical Program by analyzing chemical related failure trends, execute pilot projects, maintain and track KPIs, improve efficiency, and solve problems. Individual will join a new team that will optimize the program and create value through improving reliability for artificial lift and reducing deferred production from well downtime and surface flow assurance issues. This position will complement production, process and reliability engineering positions.

    ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES

    As a Chemical Engineer, you will be responsible for:

    • Create and maintain chemical dashboard with Vendor and Subsurface Reliability Engineering Support

    • Analyze non-mechanical and chemical related artificial lift failure trends

    • Develop and maintain Chemical Program KPIs/Metrics

    • Make recommendations for treatment changes on individual wells and propose programmatic changes to the current treatment standards

    • Attend Area failure and chemical meetings to track treatment changes and observe trends

    • Design and lead chemical pilots to improve on the current standard and provide recommendations on full implementation

    • Work with Area process engineers, small project team and MR&I surface reliability team to design and maintain continuous chemical injection systems

    • Lead efforts to optimize scale squeeze and corrosion truck treatments

    • Develop Lean skills to train and support vendor(s)

    • Develop metallurgy and soft material chemical compatibility knowledge to support field equipment decisions and recommend chemical treatments

    • Support chemical tech and operations with field troubleshooting for flow assurance issues such as plugged flowlines/vessels and issues identified from artificial lift workover activity.

    • Audit field activities to ensure HSE standards are met for acidizing, hot oil, truck treatment, and field delivery activity.

    • Support the design and optimization of chemical batch stations.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    Experience

    For this position, you will need:

    • Production chemical experience including but not limited to:

    • Chemical delivery and logistics

    • Chemical injection troubleshooting and maintenance.

    • Sample collection and analysis

    • Familiarity with artificial lift and production operations

    • Strong written and verbal communication skills

    • Advanced problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to identify and implement improvements.

    • Be a team player and show the ability to adapt to an ever-changing environment.

    • Willing to learn Spotfire and PowerBI to set up KPIs and track performance

    • Self starter that and can work with minimal or no supervision.

    • 5+ years of engineering experience in artificial lift, process, or facility engineering or direct chemical program management.

    • Chemical vendor experience desirable

    • Chemical experience for multiple Bakken operators desirable

    • Experience with chemical injection systems, including pumps, solids tailgate tests, truck treatment and squeeze operations.

    • A strong leader and team player; ability to work in cross functional organization.

    • Willing to develop computer skills such as spotfire, Microsoft excel, SAP and Wellview

    Education, Training & Certifications

    • Bachelor's degree in engineering.

    Schedule/Physical Requirements

    • Must have right to work in the US without need for visa sponsorship.

    • Remote work available for the right candidate.

    • Preferred to be North Dakota based and available to be in person at Hess' Minot, Tioga and Keene offices on Tues, Wed, Th. as needed based on work scope and management engagement.

    • Eligible to participate in Hess' 9/80 Schedule with every other Friday off.

    • Field time: 20%

    • Office Time: 80%
