  • What You Will Do

    As a SCIF Security Specialist 1 within SSO-1, the Special Access Program Facilities (SAPF) Operations Group, you will support excellence in security and operation of Special Access Program (SAP) activities and SAPF. Using your knowledge of applicable DOE-IN, NNSA, and/or LANL safeguards and security policies and procedures, you will assess operations, interpret policies, and make recommendations for operational and programmatic improvements. This position involves providing internal and external customer service with a high degree of consequence of error to ensure safety and security of national security interests and facilities. On-the-job training (OJT) and external training will be provided to ensure you are properly certified to perform assigned functions and be successful in a challenging, rewarding environment. This position will report to the Program Security Officer (PSO)/Security Manager and receive direct supervision and instruction from the Alternate PSO(s) responsible for applicable topical areas.

    What You Need

    Minimum Job Requirements:

    Security Experience & Knowledge

    Demonstrated ability to accurately interpret, adhere to, and apply regulatory guidelines and policies and procedures, including being detail oriented, maintaining rigorous compliance, and providing information on security operations.

    Customer Service:

    Excellent customer service skills, including the ability to effectively interact with a diverse customer set and build customer relations by responding in a timely manner, researching and providing accurate information and direction to a wide array of inquiries, and promotes productive cooperation.

    Communication:

    Excellent communication skills, ability to effectively interact and collaborate with colleagues, as well as internal and external customers. Demonstrated ability to prepare and present detailed reports.

    Education/Experience : Position requires an Associate's Degree from an accredited institution and 2 years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.

    Desired Qualifications:

    • Experience with high-security activities, demonstrating effectively working with extensive controls, regulatory processes and procedures, and compliance where you had to interpret and apply policies such as:

    • P202-1: Security Areas, Property Protection Areas, and General Access areas

    • P202-2: Vaults and Closed Areas

    • P203-5: Incoming Classified Visits

    • P204-2: Classified Matter Protection and Control HandbookExperience working in a SCIF, SAPF, or other high security environment.

    • Experience with database development and management

    • Active Q clearance

    Work Environment:

    Work Location: The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.

    Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory.     Additional Details

    Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2. Please note that this requirement applies only to citizens of the United States. Foreign nationals are subject to a similar requirement under DOE Order 142.3A.

    Clearance : Q/SCI (Position will be cleared to this level). Selected applicants will be subject to a background investigation conducted by or on behalf of the Federal Government, and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance. and obtaining such clearance requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon the position, additional authorization to access classified information may be required, which may or may not be available to dual citizens. Receipt of a Q clearance and additional access authorization ultimately is a decision of the Federal Government and not of Triad.

    *Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.

    New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. Although New Mexico and other states have legalized the use of marijuana, use and possession of marijuana remain illegal under federal law. A positive drug test for marijuana will result in termination of employment, even if the use was pre-offer.

    Regular position : Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to regular status.

    Internal Applicants : Regular appointment employees who have served the required period of continuous service in their current position are eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory.
