    Burns & McDonnell's regional operation in Chicago (though the right candidate could sit in other offices in the U.S.) is looking for a Senior Environmental Air Specialist to lead air permitting and compliance services to the industrial, power, commercial, transportation and manufacturing industries.     The Senior Environmental Air Specialist will work within our Environmental Services Global Practice and perform the following duties:

    • Provide technical consulting expertise and lead Air & Noise staff on air quality impact analyses and client needs.

    • Assist in managing the overall Air & Noise team, in addition to further developing client relationships and associated projects.

    • Lead preparation of air permit application packages.

    • Verify accuracy of emission calculations and estimates for routine emissions, as well as maintenance, startup and shutdown emissions.

    • Assist with review of air dispersion modeling using Environmental Protection Agency-approved modeling programs, such as AERMOD, with our air modeling practitioners.

    • Assist with preparation and oversee multi-media reporting and plans (i.e., Spill Prevention, Control and Countermeasure (SPCC), Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plans (SWPPP), Emergency Planning and Community Right-to-Know Act (EPCRA), environmental site assessments and inspections to ensure compliance with local, state and federal air quality requirements.

    • Prepare and present site investigation proposals including scope of work, estimated cost and schedule.

    • Develop cost proposals and qualification statements to achieve stated targets and standards for financial performance.

    • Provide leadership, guidance and instruction to less-experienced staff.

    • Build effective relationships with existing clients, customers and contractors and develop new business opportunities.

    • Prepare and present client and professional meeting presentations.

    • Manage sales and marketing efforts and identify key pursuits.

    • Responsible for QA/QC process adherence.

    • Ensure compliance with company and sit safety policies.

    • All other duties as assigned.

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science or related Science degree from an accredited program plus 8 years of applicable experience or related Engineering degree from an accredited program plus 7 years of applicable experience.

    • Proficiency in air pollution permitting and compliance and/or multimedia environmental compliance audits, and environmental management systems.

    • Completion of a master's degree in a related field may be substituted for one year of experience.

    • Consulting experience preferred.

    • Ability to leverage existing client relationships toward future business opportunities preferred.

    • Superior technical writing abilities.

    • Expert knowledge of federal, state, and local air regulations with emphasis on the Clean Air Act, New Source Review/Preventions of Significant Deterioration, National Emission Standards for Hazardous Air Pollutants, New Source Performance Standards, Title V Permitting, Title VI Ozone Depleting Substances and similar regulations.

    • Ability to establish effective working relationships with contractors, co-workers, and other professionals.

    • Expert analytical and problem-solving skills.

    • Excellent project management skills.

    • Expert oral and written communication skills, technical writing skills and the ability to clearly and effectively present complex information to all levels of employees, management, and clients.

    • Expert in the use of computer software (i.e., Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
