    This is a full-time, exempt position.

    SUMMARY : The Senior Laboratory Manager manages all laboratory and business operations including revenue, expenses, customer service, personnel, and maintains the quality of the lab to ensure ISO 17025 accreditation is maintained. Functions include managing outside customer and vendor relationships of the lab along with ADM business relationships. Hire and maintain staff needed to perform all laboratory duties. Submit and maintain laboratory budgets, appropriations requests and obtaining funding from ADM for continued lab operations.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include, but are not limited to, the following. Management retains the right to add to or change the duties of the position at anytime. The functions below are to be performed in accordance with all applicable FDA, OSHA, EPA, and ISO standards and regulations. Other duties may be assigned. Duties include the following:

    • Operational leadership of the QC chemistry and microbiology laboratories and teams in Forsyth, MO along with responsibilities as assigned by ADM for assisting other laboratories within the ADM organization.

    • Research and understand lab operations to be able to create ROI for capital expense requests to ensure the continued functionality of the laboratory.

    • Maintain communication of goals, budget requirements, staffing needs, equipment needs and repairs, and be the liaison between the lab and ADM management.

    • Submit the annual operating budgets and completed all needed on-going finance activities including drafting the appropriate documents and appropriations request to maintain lab testing and high standards for CofA on-time delivery.

    • Organize and maintain external ISO 17025 accreditation relationship including audits and as required, perform or assign duties for ISO 17025 internal audits and function as the ISO Management Representative. Hold the lab to the highest standards ISO requires and ensure that the lab has the resources needed to meet these standards.

    • Participate in and assign lab leadership to organize and hold ISO Management Review Meetings at a minimum of once per year.

    • Facilitate and lead meetings with internal and external stakeholders and cross-functional ADM teams.

    • Lead ADM health and wellness lab teams for internal method alignment and proficiency testing.

    • Maintain technical knowledge to continue work with IPA CLIP Task Force for lab collaboration of probiotic methods, ISO working groups for probiotic enumeration alignment Internationally, and internal ADM working groups including the enzyme assay working group along with other internal and external teams.

    • Facilitate meetings and lead technical discussions related to advanced chemistry or microbiology testing with outside vendors or other outside third-party labs on methods and testing results.

    • Lead the discussions for pricing quotes for internal ADM facilities needing testing by our lab along with on-going external third-party customer requests for testing quotes.

    • Direct or assign all business team activities including customer communication, database records, billing activities, testing requests from other parties, finance activities and CofA delivery activities for all customers.

    • Responsible for maintaining all internal and external customer relationship for excellent customer service of the lab.

    • Facilitate continual improvement and coordinate implementation of corrective actions found by lab quality team.

    MANAGER'S DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include, but are not limited to, the following. Prepare and maintain operating budget. Supervise necessary employees and continue employee development. Lead, manage, and participate on corporate and project teams as necessary. Effectively manage multiple independent projects and the department's daily operations as pertains to duties assigned. Develop and maintain departmental goals and performance reviews and 1-on-1 activities with lab team members. Support and enforce all company policies. Cultivate company culture throughout the organization.

    SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Responsible for the overall direction, coordination, goal setting, training, mentorship, performance improvement planning and evaluation of the lab team. Perform supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

    QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

    • Possess knowledge with scientific equipment and techniques for chemistry and microbiology testing.

    • Be able to read and understand testing methods, standard operating procedures, and study protocols.

    • Colleague management experience in the science field a plus.

    • Be organized and well spoken in verbal and written communication with the ability to create presentations, SOP's, training documents or other collaboration materials.

    • Be able to work independently, and to interact with peers in an effective manner.

    • Be willing to work extended hours, weekends and holidays when needed.

    • The employee is regularly required to walk, sit, and reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

    EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Bachelor's degree in business or a scientific field. Advanced degree in business preferred. A minimum of ten years management experience required (lab management preferred), or a combination of education and experience.
