    This Opportunity

    WSP is currently initiating a search for a Senior Lead Consultant - Civil Engineer for our Wilmington NC office. Candidates in Durham NC will also be considered. This individual will be part of our Civil Design service line that supports our industrial and municipal clientele across the southeast. The position relies heavily on an ability to interact with clients, team leadership skills, and technical knowledge. You will set the bar of excellence for delivering a quality project on time and within budget. The successful candidate will have the ability to work on a breadth of civil projects ranging from erosion and sediment control plans, hydraulics and hydrology design, civil grading, and coal ash landfill closures. The candidate will have a strong desire to interact with clients and build long lasting. relationships Technical opportunities are with industrial, landfill, local and state agencies.

    Your Impact

    • Perform various traditional Project Management functions (project metrics) and lead client meetings

    • Provide project leadership and orchestrating team efforts to execute a prescribed scope of work on time and within budget.

    • Ability to effectively communicate with clients, peers, and team members

    • Perform analysis for complex engineering and environmental projects and demonstrate competency in a combination of areas including hydraulics and hydrology, grading, erosion and sediment control, and general civil design

    • Balance volume of work relative to number of staff (and deadlines) and adjust accordingly

    • Assist team with Business Development activities and maintain client relationships to help grow the business

    • Perform Independent Technical Reviews of scope and fee

    • Perform Independent Technical Review on work performed by others, as a part of our Quality Control program

    • Remain a technical liaison for all civil work

    • Adhere to corporate/office health and safety procedures

    • Prepare scope of work and costing documents for proposals

    • Know and understand various Agencies of Jurisdiction and associated rules and guidelines.

    Who You Are

    Required Qualifications

    • Bachelor of Science in Civil or Environmental Engineering

    • 10+ years of professional engineering experience, and a minimum of three years in a supervisory capacity

    • Licensed Professional Engineer in North Carolina or ability to gain licensure within 6 months

    • Demonstrated leadership in a team atmosphere

    • Ability to work independently

    • Ability to recognize a project's critical path and continually plan for project success

    • Strong collaboration and communication skills

    • Experience preparing work scopes and draft proposals

    • Take ownership of civil engineering designs completed by the team as the Engineer of Record

    • Working knowledge of common Civil Engineering software tools (e.g. AutoCAD Civil 3D, HydroCAD), although proficiency is not required
