    The Air Launched Effectors Department is searching for a full time Senior Mechanical Engineer to assist and/or lead a multi-discipline team working on the design, development and/or production support of products and subsystems, for the purpose of giving the U.S. Air Force and our allies an unmatched advantage across every mission phase. From long-range surveillance sensors to command and control, to advanced air and ground effectors, we provide the technology required to keep the air domain secure.

    The primary work location will be on-site at the Raytheon Tucson office. Some travel may be required to meet and work with vendors and to support testing and other activities as needed.

    Job Summary

    The Senior Mechanical Engineer will conduct design, integration, testing and/or production support of mechanical-focused hardware using computer-aided design, mechanical analyses, and consistent coordination and communication across teams to ensure success. This role may also include leading small teams in the completion of above tasks.

    Responsibilities to Anticipate

    • While working under supervision of senior Engineering staff, recommend solutions to a wide range of technical problems related to the design, manufacture, integration, and production sustainment of various mechanical subsystems, including support in the engineering lab and the factory floor both at RMD and at suppliers.

    • Contributing to first article inspections, work instruction reviews, material dispositions, and root cause investigations to production issues. Decisions are data driven and require preparing technical justification analysis reports and presenting to a variety of Engineering Review Boards.

    • Performing mechanical design, development, and documentation of components, subassemblies, and major end items for defense system equipment in accordance with system requirements.

    • Interfacing with other engineering disciplines, non-technical disciplines, and suppliers to develop design solutions and resolve technical issues.

    Qualifications You Must Have

    • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 5 years of prior relevant experience unless prohibited by local laws/regulations.

    • Experience in 3D CAD tools (modeling and drawing)

    • Active and transferable U.S. government issued security clearance is required prior to start date. U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance .

    Qualifications We Value

    • Minimum of five (5) years of professional experience within Defense and/or Aerospace Industry, typically 5-10+ years.

    • Advanced degree in Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering.

    • Experience in engineering drawing practices and Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T) per ANSI Y14.5.

    • Ability to work in teams or independently; flexible, motivated and demonstrating initiative.

    • Experience in mechanical sub-systems packaging, materials, thermal, structural analysis, energetics principals, control systems, interconnect, airframe, or large assembly development.

    • Experience with RCCA, FMECA and DFMA practices.

    • Mechanical aptitude to provide solutions to a variety of technical problems of complex scope and complexity.

    • Ability to travel to government and other facilities in support of program activities.

    • Active DoD issued security clearance.

    The salary range for this role is 77,000 USD - 163,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate's work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
