    Boehringer Ingelheim is currently seeking a talented and innovative Senior Scientist or Principal Scientist to join the Biotherapeutics Discovery department located at our Ridgefield, CT facility. The position offers an exciting opportunity to engage in the discovery biotherapeutics for unmet medical needs. You will be an integral member of the Antibody Generation group and you will design and execute experiments to maximize antibody sequence recovery from single B cells, analyze extracted sequences, and preform high throughput DNA cloning. You will be expected to help drive a culture of excellence through successful project outcomes, advancement of scientific understanding, empowerment of staff and increased connection with the field through an external publication record and collaborative interactions within the industry. The ideal candidate for this position will have 50% lab-based responsibilities .

    Duties & Responsibilities

    • Plan, design and conduct molecular biology experiments to recover antibody sequences from single B cells, Hybridomas, as well as from immune tissues

    • Optimize and execute high throughput (HT) antibody sequence cloning into the expression vectors followed by HT DNA production

    • This is a lab-based position, and you will be expected to spend significant amount of time optimizing and running lab-based techniques

    • Plan, design, and oversee antibody display library construction

    • Perform antibody sequence analysis using standard tools such as Geneious Prime and Geneious Biologics

    • Be familiar with advanced theory and current developments in the field of antibody discovery technologies and make recommendations to management regarding the advancement of capabilities

    • Create a culture of excellence through continual process improvement, scientific curiosity and empowerment; develop and maintain outside visibility

    • Demonstrate independent thinking, e.g. by proposing and implementing new experimental designs and concepts that contribute to research goals and reflect expert knowledge; identify potential patentable inventions

    • Demonstrate clear understanding of research team goals and work effectively toward achieving them; be able to participate as co-leader or representative on multiple project teams and contribute to defining expertise-related aspects of overall program goals

    • Comply with all applicable regulations; ensures that work performed in area of responsibility is conducted in a safe and compliant manner; maintain proper records in accordance with SOPs and policies

    • Prepare clear technical reports, publications and oral presentations; independently communicate results in the form of reports and or presentations; present responsibly and defend own work at scientific meetings; deliver project updates to senior level management

    Requirements

    Senior Scientist:

    • Requires a PhD in related field or equivalent industry experience in related field.

    Principal Scientist:

    • Requires a PhD plus five (5) years industry experience in related field or equivalent.

    Requirements for both levels:

    • Requires an advanced knowledge of a technology such as RT-PCR, HT DNA cloning, antibody sequence analysis, and vector design using Geneious, Vector NTI, or similar software tools

    • Requires direct experience with lab automation

    • One (1) to three (3) years' experience leading employees and projects is desired

    • Experience in bioinformatics and structural biology is a plus.

    • Requires project management ability and excellent written and oral presentation skills.

    Desired Experience, Skills and Abilities:

    • Requires international travel and collaboration

    Eligibility Requirements:

    • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without restriction.

    • Must be willing to take a drug test and post-offer physical (if required)

    • Must be 18 years of age or older

    Compensation Data
