    Essential Duties:

    1. Assists in planning chemical dependency counseling programs; and coordinates the delivery of counseling services to offenders with histories of chemical use, abuse, or addiction.

    2. Provides a comprehensive evaluation from a batter of valid measurement tools to assess the recover needs and the re-offense risk of offenders.

    3. Participates in the Individual Treatment Plan based on the severity and characteristics of the offender as determined by the comprehensive assessment, review of collateral information, and the Clinical interview.

    4. Provides counseling and recovery skills training; participates in offender orientation, educational and individual and process counseling groups in compliance with program standards, guidelines, policies, and procedures.

    5. Maintain a Therapeutic Community (TC) within the facility working closely with correctional staff to create a living environment that is peer driven.

    6. Maintains offender records and other records regarding services provided to include statistical feedback on evaluations; and compiles data and submits reports and related documentation as appropriate.

    7. At the conclusion of the program, and Individual Progress Summary will be developed for each offender on caseload to reflect the evaluation results together with comments about the offenders level of participation and quality of completion in the SAFPF/IPTC programs.

    8. Submit copy of the Individual Progress Summary to the Parole Division to be included in the Parole Case Summary.

    Qualifications:

    • Bachelors degree for a college or university accredited by an organization recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) of by the United States Department of Education (USDE). Major coursework in Criminal Justice, Behavioral Science, or related field preferred.

    • Each year of experience as described below more than the required four (4) may be substituted for thirty (30) semester hours from an accredited college or university on a year-for-year basis.

    • Four (4) years full-time wage-earning experience in substance abuse treatment required.

    • Current licensure as a Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor by the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS), or current valid Qualified Credentialed Counselor (QCC) identified by the Texas Department of State Health Services.

    • Supervisory and therapeutic community environment experience preferred.

    • Must hold current CPR and first aid certifications.

    • A valid drivers license in the state of Texas with an acceptable driving record require, unless waived by management.

    • Must successfully complete Correctional Awareness Training (CAT), annual in-service training requirements, and pass TCDJ approved annual background checks.

    • Must maintain valid license status for continued employment.
