    Job Description

    Department: Social Services

    Reports to: Director of Social Services

    Administrator if the facility does not have a Director of Social Services

    POSITION SUMMARY

    The Social Services Tech provides support to the social service department and staff.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    Education and/or Experience:

    Completed at least 2,000 hours of social work experience, accrued over not less than one year and

    under the supervision of a LMSW or LBSW, as well as current employment in human services or

    social services during which social work values, ethics, principles, and skills were applied.

    Completed two years of college that included at least four courses relevant to human service needs.

    Successful completion of two years of college means completion of 60 semester or 90 quarter hours

    of college-level courses with a cumulative grade point average of at least 2.0.

    Successful completion of an associate degree in social work or related field from an accredited

    college or university.

    Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

    Social Services Technician - Registered Social Services Technician preferred

    Minimum Qualifications

    Working knowledge of personal computer and software applications used in job functions (word

    processing, graphics, databases, spreadsheets, etc.)

    Strong organizational and analytical skills; oral and written communication skills. The ability to be

    flexible in prioritization of tasks.

    Working knowledge and ability to apply professional standards of social work practice in job

    situations.

    Freedom from use of and effects of use of drugs and alcohol in the workplace.

    Meets state and federal criminal background check requirements.

    An understanding of HIPAA guidelines and the ability to be compliant.

    Interviewing clients to obtain information about a client's situation, and providing information about

    available services, and providing specific assistance to help people use community resources

    Conducting case-finding activities in the community and encouraging and providing linkages to

    available services. Making referrals as needed with an eventual understanding of the criterion to

    meet referral guidelines.

    Monitoring a client's compliance with a program's expectations.

    Providing life-skills training.

    Referencing of practice in the appropriate format

    Able to express self adequately in written and/or oral communication and to communicate

    effectively in an interdisciplinary care setting with residents, families, and staff members.

    Carries out all duties in accord with the facility mission and philosophy.

    Demonstrates knowledge of and respect for the rights, dignity, and individuality of each resident in

    all interactions.

    Appreciates the importance of maintaining confidentiality of resident and facility information.

    HIPAA compliance.

    Demonstrates honesty and integrity at all times in the care and use of resident and facility property.

    Knowledge of emergency and disaster procedures of the facility. Able to locate the nearest exit, to

    understand and respond to written or oral instructions in case of emergency.

    Sufficient mobility, and strength to move freely through the building, to assure resident safety at all

    times, and to assist, transfer, or otherwise move residents of the facility out of danger in case of

    emergency.

    Demonstrates respect for co-workers and responds to the needs of residents by complying with facility

    policies and procedures.

    Demonstrates ability to prioritize tasks/responsibilities and complete duties/projects within the allotted

    time.

    Ensures that the quality and appropriateness of Resident care meets or exceeds company and

    industry standards and ensures that all services are in compliance with state and federal legal,

    regulatory, accreditation, and reimbursement guidelines.

    Maintain effective relationships and open communication with Residents, families, and staff.

    Participates in quality improvement activities, which reduce cost and increase efficiency through

    improved systems and processes.

    Performs other duties as assigned.

    LANGUAGE SKILLS

    Must be able to speak and write in the English language understandably. Must be able to

    express self adequately in written and oral communication and to communicate effectively with

    supervisor, staff members, residents, and their family members.

    REASONING ABILITY

    Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables. Ability to interpret a

    variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Applies process

    improvement methods and techniques and identifies processes for improvement in daily work.

    Demonstrates active listening techniques; gains support through effective relationships; treats others

    with dignity and respect; seeks feedback; follows the chain of command to resolve issues and/or

    conflicts.

    CONTINUING EDUCATION

    Attends in-services and continuing education programs.

    RESIDENT RIGHTS

    Promotes and protects resident's rights; treats residents with dignity and respect; protects resident's

    personal belongings; reports suspected abuse or neglect; avoids the need for physical restraints in

    accordance with current professional standards; supports independent expression, choice, and decision-

    making consistent with applicable laws and regulations.

    INFECTION CONTROL

    Applies hand washing principles during daily work; demonstrates understanding of isolation and

    standard precautions; recognizes signs and symptoms of infection and complies with the employee

    health program; demonstrates understanding of the process for identifying and handling infectious

    waste; maintains personal hygiene; complies with OSHA standards in the workplace; and demonstrates

    understanding of cross-contamination.

    MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

    Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common

    fractions, and decimals.

    INFORMATION MANAGEMENT

    Computer knowledge and use are required. Enters or records data timely and accurately; protects

    confidentiality of Resident information; protects data against loss or destruction; logs onto the system

    using own password; logs off the system when leaving the workstation; reports suspected violation of

    security/confidentiality issues; reviews data and identifies trends.

    WORK ENVIRONMENT

    The work environment characteristics described are representative of those employee encounters

    Report issues affecting resident care to the Administrator. If issues continue, the Corporate Compliance
