  • Kelly Science is seeking a Soil Scientist/Argonomist for a leading company located near Woburn, MA.

    Salary: $75,000-90,000/year

    Shift: Monday-Friday 1 st shift

    Employment Type: Full Time; Direct Hire

    Summary:

    As the Soil Scientist/Argonomist, you will play a crucial role in assessing soil health, testing and evaluating new products, and developing sustainable management practices for various purposes.

    Job Duties Include:

    • Conduct research and field studies to evaluate new products and investigate responses to different management practices.

    • Analyze soil samples for chemical and microbial composition, including relationships to plant growth and productivity.

    • Offer expert advice on land use management for both rural and urban environments.

    • Design and implement research programs to evaluate the impact of fertilizers, soil amendments, crop protection chemicals and biologicals on soil health and crop yields.

    • Conduct experiments in grow rooms, green houses, outdoors or research stations to identify optimal product-soil-plant combinations.

    • Secure funding and manage research trials, adhering to company protocols and budget allocations.

    • Collaborate with academic stakeholders to identify and conduct impactful research projects.

    • Guide growers on efficient crop production strategies based on accurate soil analyses, product knowledge and knowledge of relevant regulations.

    • Collect and analyze data from field trials.

    • Diagnose and address weed, insect, disease, and nutrient deficiencies in customer fields.

    • Ensure optimal timing for planting/seeding, fertilization, and pesticide application based on weather conditions.

    • Prepare insightful progress reports and analyze crop claim issues as needed.

    • Document field evaluations of chemicals, biologicals, and fertilizers.

    • Train sales and marketing staff on agronomic principles.

    • Assist with budgeting and cost monitoring for agronomic activities.

    • Maintain strong relationships with suppliers, applicators, and agronomy laboratories.

    • Stay current on advancements in crop nutrition and protection technologies.

    • 10-20% travel to conferences or field studies

    Qualifications:

    • Bachelor's degree in crop science, soil science, or a scientific related field and 5-10 years of experience within a research-intensive soil science role

    OR

    • Master's degree in crop science, soil science, or a related scientific field with 3-5 years of experience within a research-intensive soil science role

    OR

    • PhD in crop science, soil science or a scientific related field.

    • Strong communication skills- will be interacting with clients regularly- must be able to explain complex concepts to individuals of all levels of scientific background.

    • Proficient in data analysts and report writing.
