    This is technical role for a Specialist Engineer (Chief) on a growing team to research, design, develop, analyze, and test a variety of aerospace systems for government customers in the aerospace industry. The successful candidate would be a leader in the airborne projects team. While they will wear many hats, they would also own a major portion of strategic projects focusing on things such as mechanical design, pod development, oversight of multiphysics FEA, payload integration, aerospace materials, and/or qualification testing with consultation from other engineering disciplines.

    The Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering group is a high performing team with a breadth of experience in mechanical design, electronics manufacturing, electronics packaging, structural, and thermal analysis. The level VI mechanical/aerospace engineer will provide technical leadership and team development in design, analysis, build, and test of mechanical components and assemblies for airborne systems. Guide the down select of materials, structures, hardware suitable for application in the payload. Guide the conversion of vehicle operation envelop definition and customer requests into payload and component requirements. Mentor the team that will create multiple concept solutions to those requirements and execute the chosen path. 3D CAD (SolidWorks) design and drafting of mechanical/electrical components and assemblies. Support vendor research, selection, and interface. Coaching of engineers and development of processes in support of team development and AS9100.

    Here's what you'll need :

    • ABILITY TO OBTAIN AND MAINTAIN A SECURITY CLEARANCE.

    • Minimum of 15 years in Aerospace, Mechanical, Electrical Engineering experience or equivalent (Master's degree may be used).

    • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Aerospace engineering (or similar).

    • Working knowledge of the fundamental principles for performing mechanical design and analysis.

    • Familiarity with and ability to use and manipulate technical drawings in mechanical CAD tools such as SolidWorks.

    • Ability to work across mechanical, aeronautical, electrical, and materials engineering disciplines.

    • Excellent written and verbal communication and technical documentation skills.

    • Works well as a part of and leading a team.

    • Good interpersonal skills including a passionate and can-do attitude.

    • Strong problem-solving skills.

    • Able to work independently and as part of a team.

    • Travel: less than 20% Position is hybrid with typically 3 or more days on site each week.

    Desired Requirements: (highly qualified candidate, but not required)

    • Basic machine shop and small part fabrication experience.

    • Experience designing with aerospace grade materials and finishes.

    • 12 years of experience with aerospace vehicle or flight hardware.

    • Experience aircraft and aerospace systems.

    • Experience with composite materials (Carbon fiber and Fiberglass).

    • Expertise with MIL-STD-810, RTCA DO-160, MIL-STD-8591, MIL-STD-8856, MIL-STD-1763.
