    Job Description

    Job Summary:

    This Houston based position will weld metal components together with brazing and variety of arc and gas welding equipment to fabricate or repair products such as machine parts, plant equipment, motors, and generators. Performs manual and/or automated welding using resistance, electrical arc and open flame welding in natural or artificial atmosphere on all materials by performing the following duties.

    Detailed Description:

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

    • Welds components in flat, vertical, or overhead positions by using TIG, MIG, ARC, brazing, and/or soldering as appropriate and any combination of arc welding processes.

    • Performs related tasks such as thermal cutting and grinding.

    • Repairs broken or cracked parts, fills holes, and increases size of metal parts.

    • Reads and interprets design drawings, sketches and verbal instructions and specifications.

    • Exercises judgement, ingenuity, and initiative. Demonstrates ability to advise design and engineering personnel in up to the minute developments, new techniques and procedures and materials.

    • Performs precision welding using the highest quality of workmanship.

    • Demonstrates ability to accomplish all required layout, set up, clamping, fixturing, and measuring necessary within assigned tasks without seeking higher technical assistance.

    • Performs all mathematical calculations necessary to complete assigned work.

    • Performs routine repetitive high production tasks as assigned.

    Supervisory Responsibilities

    This job has no supervisory responsibilities but may provide technical leadership to lower-level welders including carrying out lead responsibilities in accordance with applicable regulations and laws and the organization's policies and procedures. This includes, but is not limited to training employees, planning, assigning, directing work, and resolving technically related work problems.

    Education and/or Experience

    Technical Diploma or specialized welding certification required such as CRAW, CWI, or CWS. Minimum of 8-10 years welding experience required. Demonstrated ability to read and understand all drawings, written instructions, shop math and measuring equipment required to perform the job.

    Language Skills

    Ability to read and comprehend work and safety instructions, correspondence, and memos. Requires demonstrated ability to read, comprehend and interpret highly technical publications, specifications, orders, sketches, and design drawings.

    Mathematical Skills

    Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry and perform complex calculations. Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.

    Language Skills

    Ability to read and comprehend work and safety instructions, correspondence, and memos. Requires demonstrated ability to read, comprehend and interpret highly technical publications, specifications, orders, sketches, and design drawings.

    Reasoning Ability

    Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

    Computer Skills

    To perform this job successfully, an individual should be able to enter time and data into a computer system.

    Other Skills and Abilities

    • Continuously perform welding activities that may require movement of welding equipment, movement of parts/items to be welded and positioning of self to perform welds in various physical positions.

    • Continuously operate machines that require the loading of materials into the machine, removal of parts from the machine, and entering/editing data in the machine. Frequently position self to perform the aforementioned activities which include moving about the machines, reaching above and below shoulder level to load and unload materials into machines. This position occasionally twists, stoops, and bends to perform job duties as well as to push and pull.

    • Must be able to monitor machine operations and perform verifications of the physical attributes of machined parts. This requires close vision, depth perception, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus.

    • Must be able to understand/interpret specifications, drawings, and instructions.

    • Frequently lifts and moves materials to be machined and parts that have been machined (up to 25 pounds). Occasionally lifts and moves items that weigh up to 50 pounds.

    • Ability to research, comprehend and retain job related information and instructions.

    • Ability to understand, offer and implement solutions to machining problems/challenges.

    • Ability to frequently work near moving mechanical parts and equipment.

    • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and meet requirements.

    • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide.

    • Ability to use inspection and measurement tools in the verification of part dimensions.

    • Occasionally communicates with managers and coworkers in the performance of job duties. Must be able to exchange accurate information and understand instructions and technical details.

    • Must be able to maintain a clean and organized work area.
