    POSITION PURPOSE

    The Detroit Area Library Network (DALNET) seeks candidates with credentials to qualify for a full-time position as a DALNET Systems Librarian with a rank of Librarian I. This subsidy-conditioned position is renewable annually contingent upon availability of funding.

    Founded as a not-for-profit corporation in 1985, DALNET is a multi-type library consortium currently serving 13 members throughout Michigan. DALNET enables members to better serve their users through cooperative efforts and by sharing advanced library automation and discovery applications. DALNET is based at Wayne State University, a Carnegie I Research University with a commitment to teaching and learning excellence. A comprehensive university with 13 schools and colleges offering over 350 academic programs, WSU enrolls over 23,000 students, including 16,000 undergraduates. Wayne State is situated in Detroit's Cultural District amidst museums, theaters, medical facilities, and corporate offices, easily accessible from major freeways.

    The incumbent provides responsive customer service and training in support of systems used by DALNET. In close collaboration with colleagues and customers, this library professional analyzes and resolves complex technical problems involving applications, data, and systems software configuration and use.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

    Serves as a subject matter expert for DALNET systems, especially library management, digital asset management, and discovery systems contracted for or otherwise made available by DALNET to DALNET members. Develops and applies extensive knowledge of these systems to ensure the optimal use of available resources;

    Provides support for the Ex Libris Alma library management system (LMS) and associated Primo discovery layer and other assigned applications through troubleshooting, testing and systems administration. Tests and implements LMS and discovery upgrades and enhancements;

    Assumes leadership for assigned projects involving customers and applications that require the integration of multiple systems from various sources, platforms, and technologies which includes providing support and direction for DALNET working groups;

    Collaborates with colleagues to define requirements for the Alma and Primo systems used by DALNET and for non-bibliographic and digitized resources available from DALNET;

    Trains customers on the use of the Alma and Primo systems, related applications, and various utility programs such as MarcEdit, Connexion, and reporting tools (including Alma Analytics); and

    Travels to member institutions as well as to regional, state, and national meetings and conferences.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

    Master's degree in Library and Information Science from an ALA-accredited institution or equivalent. Degree required at the time of employment;

    Ability to work with customers to define requirements, analyze issues, and develop workable solutions;

    Excellent project management and time management skills, including the capability to work independently and to manage complex projects with minimal supervision;

    Knowledge and experience with libraries, library management systems or integrated library systems, and discovery services;

    Ability to be flexible and be willing to take risks, the capacity to learn constantly and quickly, and an abiding public service perspective; and

    Strong oral and written communication skills.

    SALARY AND BENEFITS:

    Starting salary range: $51,000 - $56,000 annually, depending on qualifications and experience.

    Twenty-two vacation days per year, plus University holidays. Fringe benefits are excellent, including TIAA-CREF or Fidelity, and tuition assistance for employees and family members.

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

    Knowledge of multiple library management systems, integrated library systems, and discovery services, and other applications.

    Specific experience using and configuring Alma and Primo/Primo VE, and the open source DSpace digital asset management system;

    Experience in acquisitions, serials control, or circulation in a library or similar organization;

    Experience with cataloging under various international standards such as RDA and AACR2 and their various interpretations;

    Working knowledge of Internet delivery and harvesting technologies such as HTML, XML, PHP, OAI-PMH, JavaScript, and Dublin Core; and

    Basic understanding of data communication protocols, software, and networks.
