Description of Work Unit
Founded in 1870, Colorado State University is among the nation's leading research universities and enrolls approximately 32,000 undergraduate, graduate, and professional students. The Temple Grandin Equine Center ( TGEC ) is located in the Department of Animal Sciences. The Department of Animal Sciences has the unique mission of serving Colorado's large and diverse livestock industries. Research, teaching, and extension outreach activities in the Department of Animal Sciences focus on developing industry leaders and improving profitable production of horses and food animals through the application of science and technology, resource management and food product enhancement, with emphasis on addressing societal issues concerning food safety, product quality and value, animal care and management, and environmental impacts of animal agriculture.
Position Summary
This part-time position will teach adaptive horsemanship lessons, individual and group, will host equine-related educational activities to youth and youth organizations, and will work with all staff, other providers and volunteers in accordance with facility policies.
Required Job Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree
Current credentials from PATH Int'l as a Certified Therapeutic Riding Instructor ( CTRI )
Demonstrated interpersonal, communication, organization, and complex problem solving skills
Experience educating others about equine-related information
Experience educating others about equine-assisted services
Proficiency with MS Office Suite, and ability to operate in a highly computerized environment
Must have a valid driver's license or the ability to obtain a driver's license or access to a licensed driver by the employment start date
Preferred Job Qualifications
PATH Int'l ESMHL Certification
Experience training and mentoring PATH Int'l CTRI Instructors-in-training
Experience coordinating and hosting youth educational activities
Experience coordinating ongoing programming and community engagement
Demonstrated commitment to diversity and inclusivity and ability to work with various audiences and clientele.
