    General Summary:

    The Finance Leader for IDI will be accountable for driving financial results in partnership with corporate and business leaders. This position will be accountable for providing comprehensive financial and strategic analysis support, valuation support, pricing, and value creation. and overall profitability of the line of business they support.

    Principal Duties and Responsibilities

    • Be the single point of contact and consultant to the VP of IDI line of business for all financial elements.

    • Provide key financial leadership as a member of the business leadership teams providing financial direction to drive optimal profitable growth.

    • Provide thought leadership that serves to inform and ground key business decisions. Collaborate with subject matter experts, provide quality financial analytics and exercise judgment to drive optimum solutions for complex issues. Provide concise, cohesive, well-articulated explanations to support recommendations.

    • Seek out and maintain cooperative, productive cross-functional partnerships with other Finance business leaders including the allocation and sharing of resources where appropriate.

    • Leadership responsibility for financial, pricing and valuation management of assigned line of business.

    • Ensure profitable pricing with optimum balance among revenue growth, earnings, ROE and competitive position.

    • Drive and/or support strategic and business planning processes, including incorporation of external impacts on feasibility of strategies and business plans. Ensure alignment of initiatives and business plans with business strategies and financial plan. Drive/support strategic and financial business assessments when appropriate.

    • Accountable for achievement of the financial plan by working with Line of Business Management to understand performance relative to plan, develop action steps to address variances, and drive ongoing monitoring and management of financial results

    • Develop and implement a financial agenda that provides core financial analysis as well as project support for key business priorities

    • Perform feasibility analyses and recommend business programs that proactively drive the line of business to achieve short term and long-term plans.

    • Ensure confidence in and understanding of the financial reporting and financial forecasting outputs by direct involvement with the monthly, quarterly, and annual processes

    • Educate business partners on the underlying financial dynamics of the business

    • Participate in merger, acquisition, partnership, and new venture opportunities for all businesses. Develop/align strategic rationale for opportunities, and oversee/conduct sourcing, assessment/sizing of opportunities, due diligence, financial and strategic analyses, deal structuring, management of execution of the transaction, and development of the integration/implementation plan.

    • Conduct relevant financial and strategic competitor analyses.

    • Model positive change management, leading individuals and teams through new operating models, new methodologies and creating opportunities for discussion and deliberation. Drive the development and implementation strategies for large-scale, cross-functional, complex teams.

    • Build agility and resilience within teams and broader Finance organization to drive transformation.

    • Provide coaching and mentoring to assist individuals in achieving their full potential. Build bench strength and core competencies for the organization.

    Job Specifications

    • College degree with accounting or financial background. FSA, CPA, MBA, CFA or other financial designation preferred. Minimum of 10 years financial background in Financial Services sector.

    • Strong negotiation and partnership skills, across all levels of management, with ability to influence and challenge decisions and processes.

    • Ability to frame up issues, options and solutions using financial data for business decision-making.

    • Proven financial planning experience in a complex financial services environment.

    • Leadership experience at a corporate or operating unit level.

    • Extensive experience in developing and implementing planning, reporting and forecasting processes and methodologies.

    • Strong negotiation and partnership skills, across all levels of management, with ability to influence and challenge decisions and processes.

    • Proven ability to work in fast-paced, detailed, and deadline-oriented environment by balancing multiple priorities and resources simultaneously.

    • Experience navigating change with both individuals and teams.

    • Ability to frame up issues, options and solutions using financial data for business decision-making.

    • Experience/familiarity with financial and insurance accounting environments/principles.

    • Sophisticated understanding of insurance product economics and the business activities that affect their financial performance.

    • Extensive quantitative and qualitative analytical and problem-solving skills.

    • Excellent project management skills.

    • Operates with strong conceptual thinking rather than strictly in a 'rules' framework.

    The base salary range for applicants for this position is listed below. Unless actual salary is indicated above in the job description, actual pay will be based on skill, geographical location and experience.

    $144,900.00-$260,800.00

    Additionally, Unum offers a portfolio of benefits and rewards that are competitive and comprehensive including healthcare benefits (health, vision, dental), insurance benefits (short & long-term disability), performance-based incentive plans, paid time off, and a 401(k) retirement plan with an employer match up to 5% and an additional 4.5% contribution whether you contribute to the plan or not. All benefits are subject to the terms and conditions of individual Plans.
