  • Overview

    Bowhead is looking for Woodworkers to support operations at the Letterkenny Army Depot (LEAD) in Chambersburg, PA. Individuals are part of a workforce that supports and resets military armored vehicles and military power generators.

    Responsibilities

    Essential functions include, but are not limited to:

    • Constructing and repairing items such as boxes, crates, pallets, and storage bins from wood and wood substitutes by studying specifications

    • Measures, marks, and cuts boards, using patterns, templates, ruler, pencil, and hand and power saws.

    • Fastens or installs parts, using hammer, nailing machine, or power staple; repairs defective containers by replacing damaged parts, inserts wood bracings, cardboard files, and felt pads in containers.

    • May be called upon to build crate(s) around object, using ruler, hand tools, and pneumatic nailer, may fabricate, repair, modify, and replace woodwork on vehicle sides and beds, apply preservative to prolong wood life, and may pack, seal, band, and apply markings to crates and containers.

    • Other duties as assigned

    Qualifications

    • High school diploma or equivalent.

    • Minimum of one-three (1-3) years' experience in woodworking positions.

    • Must be able to read drawings and determine materials and sizes of complex packing structures to support multiple missions across depot.

    • Must have knowledge of depot regulations on packing and shipping materials.

    • Knowledge of Required Depot documents, such as ISPM 15/APHIS/IPCC.

    • Licensed to use material handling equipment such as forklifts/sideloaders/swing masts/and other devices up to 20,000 pounds. Ability to drive a vehicle up to 14,000 pounds.

    • Must have a good working knowledgeable of Army regulations; systems, programs, policies, nomenclature, work methods, manuals, or other established guidelines.

    • Must be able to pass a background investigation and gain access to military installations.

    • Must possess a strong desire to provide excellent customer service solutions and interact with coworkers and clients in a courteous and professional manner.

    • Must be able to perform basic mathematics.

    • Able to demonstrate computer skills such as word/excel/LMP etc.

    • Experience working at Letterkenny Army Depot highly desired.

    SECURITY CLEARANCE REQUIREMENTS: May require background investigation or clearance. US Citizenship is a requirement for this location. Securing and maintaining a Common Access card (CAC) is a requirement for all positions at this location.

    • Regularly required to sit; use hands to handle, move, manipulate or feel objects; talk and/or hear and taste and/or smell.

    • Routinely required to work at varying heights (work from ladders and/or mobile platforms). Occasional use of a fall protection harness will be required.

    • Some mechanic positions require the use of respiratory equipment (half mask/hood/helmet).

    • Frequently required to stand and/or walk and routinely required to reach with hands and arms.

    • Routinely required to stand, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, and/or squat.

    • Frequently lifts and /or moves up to 25 pounds and occasionally lifts and/or moves up to 40 pounds.

    • Often exerts similar effort in pushing, pulling and positioning parts assemblies and equipment.

    • Frequently lifts and moves heavier items with the assistance of other workers or with lifting devices such as jacks hoists and cranes.

The work environment varies and includes, but is not limited to; office space, equipment rooms, warehouse space, construction zones, field conditions, and outdoor environments. PPE is required where necessary (i.e. safety shoes, hearing protection, gloves, bump caps, respirators, fall protection, etc...) Work hours may fluctuate outside of normal duty hours. Travel is not anticipated for this position. If travel is required, candidate must have a valid driver's license and three (3) years' clean driving record for this position. Employee must complete required driver's training and follow all Authorized Driver policies and procedures regarding approved vehicle usage.
