A resume essentially showcases the skills and abilities you have that make you an asset to a potential employer. Of course, resumes must also substantiate any claims that you make by listing relevant experiences, education, and other achievements on this document. In addition, in order to appeal to potential employers, a resume should ideally show that you are a positive person that can get along well with co-workers.

· Limit the length of your resume to one or two pages. Keep in mind that an employer usually spends well under a minute looking at each resume that he or she receives. Thus, it is important that your resume be a concise one that can attract the interest of employers. After all, the goal of the resume is to mainly land that all important interview that can lead to a possible job offer. Thus, you should limit the length of your resume to one or two pages.

· Think of the resume as an advertisement with you as the product. In other words then, you should be adept at writing persuasive copy that proves you are an exceptional job candidate. Using action verbs are an excellent way to convey your achievements on a resume. Some good action words to use on your resume include: engineered, diagnosed, spearheaded, overhauled, improved and resolved.

· Remember to focus on your achievements – and not just on job duties. In order to stand out as job candidate, it is a good idea to list your specific accomplishments. Better yet, try to quantify these career achievements in numerical or percentage terms whenever possible. For instance, statements such as “increased annual sales by thirty percent” can be extremely powerful and impress potential employers.


· Proofread your resume - and then proofread it again. Although using a spellchecker can be helpful, this method is not fool-proof. As a result, you should proofread your resume a few times to ensure that it is high quality. Getting a colleague to review your resume can also be extremely helpful.

· Ensure that your contact information is up-to-date and correct. If you have a LinkedIn account, you may also wish to share that information with prospective employers.
