    Yosemite Pathology is a private independent pathologist owned and operated surgical pathology and cytology laboratory based in Modesto, CA. YP provides comprehensive state of the art, reliable, and accurate diagnostic services to its physicians and major area hospitals in the Alameda, Amador, Calaveras, Contra Costa, Kern, Mariposa, Merced, San Joaquin, Solano, Stanislaus and Tuolumne counties.

    YP offers a full spectrum of tissue pathology, cytology, and histology services, including examination of gynecologic specimens, body fluids and fine needle aspiration specimens. We also offer an extensive array of special stains and immunohistochemistry to assist in the management of oncologic and non-oncologic diseases. The laboratory is supported by highly qualified Histotechnologist, Cytotechnologist, Technicians and office staff who offer excellent service.

    Summary/Objective

    The Bakersfield Histology Manager is responsible for oversight of the Histology Department functions including but not limited to: Quality Assurance/Quality Control, maintaining compliance with CLIA regulations, Providing and ensuring appropriate Training and support for Histology staff, implementing best practices for optimal workflow and quality, and monitoring key performance indicators such as turnaround time, productivity, etc.

    Essential Functions

    • Supervise and monitor performance of the Bakersfield Histology Department staff while providing training as necessary.
    • Create and review Histology Department Policies and Procedures as needed and at required review period.
    • Evaluate workflows in the Histology Department to maintain standardization and optimize efficiency.
    • Maintains QC/QA documentation for compliance and to identify performance improvement opportunities.
    • Maintains and monitors department inventory while remaining within budget allocated for the department.
    • Ensures instruments are maintained according to manufacturer’s recommendations and functioning optimally for efficiency.
    • Evaluates new special stains and IHC tests, and performs all required verifications and validations as applicable.
    • Perform troubleshooting and problem solving as necessary to determine and resolve technical issues.
    • Performs embedding, microtomy, immunohistochemistry staining, and all other department functions based on the needs of the department.
    • Facilitate communication between the Histology Lab and all other departments as well as with the Modesto Lab.

    Minimum Job Requirements

    • 5 years of laboratory and Histology experience
    • Management/Supervisory experience
    • Certified Histotechnician

    • Laboratory Information System experience a plus

    Compensation and Benefits:

    • The compensation range is $80,000 – $95,000 annually. Final salary offer subject to multiple factors including candidate experience and expertise, geographic location of the role, and current market data.
