    About You and This Role

    R&D Technologist Lead-Supporting Hydrocarbons Analytical

    Our R&D Team has an opportunity for a R&D Technologist Lead-Supporting Hydrocarbons in any of the Plastics Characterization Research & Development (R&D) hubs, located in Freeport, TX (Texas, US), Terneuzen (The Netherlands) and Tarragona (Spain).

    You will be part of a global and multi-functional team of researchers (technologists and scientists) whose responsibilities include developing and implementing lab-based and process-aligned analytical most effective technology (MET); developing and implementing improvement plans for the analytical applications used in a scope of quality control laboratories inside Packaging and Specialty Plastics and Hydrocarbons (PSP&H); and supporting the development and implementation of analytical strategies for PSP&H.

    Your responsibilities will also include being the Manufacturing Analytical Team (MAT) Leader for the Hydrocarbons value center inside PSP&H. You will be required a strong partnering with BASs (Business Analytical Specialists) and the MAT teams (Manufacturing Analytical Teams). You will be involved with interfacing with Quality Control Laboratories to define improvement and implementation needs, and to support high level (complex) troubleshooting efforts. You will be involved in partnering and supporting with Business Analytical Leaders (BASs) to develop and implement analytical strategies, and to interface with R&D/TS&D, Manufacturing, and Quality teams. You will deliver a global impact in both the R&D and the Manufacturing arenas.

    The PSP&H organization delivers innovative materials and technologies that address customer needs in high-growth, specialized applications in packaging, elastomers, hygiene and medical, and wire & cable, and in hydrocarbons.

    Responsibilities

    • Partners with the MAT teams (Manufacturing Analytical Teams) inside a value center (e.g. Hydrocarbons). This is a network of analytical technologists and specialists representing all of the quality control laboratories which support manufacturing facilities in a value center in PSP&H.

    • Actively participates in work group team meetings to address safety, process improvement, problem solving, and other work group, department, and functional topics.

    • Independently leverages recognized in-depth knowledge of technology combined with effective leadership and coaching to provide direction, technical coaching, coordination, work planning, and leadership for the MAT teams aligned to a particular value center inside PSP&H (e.g. Hydrocarbons).

    • Understands and communicates overall group objectives and the business or group's value-creating strategy and is an important provider and/or contributor to the technical solutions that result in project success.

    • Works with BASs (Business Analytical Specialists) and MAT teams inside a particular value center (e.g. Hydrocarbons) to define, validate, and implement the necessary Most Effective Technologies (MET) for analytical applications. Harmonizes MET with other Performance Plastics business teams as necessary. Follows the MOC process to Maintain/Improve MET.

    • Identifies the need for and is involved in implementing new processes or technology to improve performance and increase capabilities.

    • Partners with BASs to support the work to implement analytical technologies and methods in new quality control laboratories in support of Mega Projects (e.g. FCDh, Path2Zero, etc.).

    • Works with MAT teams to identify improvement opportunities on analytical applications, with a focus on analytical methodologies and technologies used in quality control laboratories in manufacturing facilities which are aligned to a value center in PSP&H (e.g. Hydrocarbons). This responsibility includes tracking the capability of methods used in quality control laboratories.

    • Works with BASs (Business Analytical Specialists) and the MAT teams to develop and implement action plans which address analytical improvement opportunities, as identified in a scope of quality control laboratories inside PSP&H. This includes making sure that the capability of methods is within acceptable levels.

    • Exercises discretion and judgment while evaluating and managing new technology for potential utilization within area of responsibility which could include leading research projects, subsections of projects, or a product specific lab function for testing, characterization, or technical support.

    • Supports BASs and MAT teams with a range of additional assessments and improvements as needed to develop and implement Analytical Strategies for a particular business/value center (e.g. Hydrocarbons); and to drive various compliance and cost effectiveness activities in a scope of quality laboratories.

    • Works with the MAT teams to identify and institute Best Practices. This may include ways to document and standardize sample plans; approaches to reduce intra- and inter-lab variability, and to improve method capability; initiatives to reduce testing frequency through the use of operating discipline, process knowledge, and SPC; defines the Best Practices for analytical testing (maintenance, SQC, training) and make sure they are documented in methods and procedures; conducts internal and cross audits; leverages resources and expertise both within the business and with other businesses.

    • Works with the BASs and MAT teams to develop and manage capital plans for analytical equipment, addressing new testing requirements and the obsolescence of equipment.

    • Supports the work to prioritize and drive activities managed by the MAT team, working with Team Members, Quality Coordinators, Team Sponsors and others as appropriate; keeping significant analytical issues at the forefront.

    • Serves as a subject matter expert and is responsible for overall operation of instrumentation, machinery, systems, and/or production equipment in area of responsibility and viewed as the "go-to" expert in a specific technology area/lab.

    • Supports a number of Technology Teams, leveraging analytical knowledge and expertise, and supporting the development and implementation of technology roadmaps and pipelines.

    • Trains others within workgroup across a wide variety of equipment, methods, processes, techniques, etc., and frequently required to leverage expertise/consulting to others outside of own work group - acting as a global resource for supported technologies at other Dow locations.

    • Coaches, mentors, and teaches other more junior technologists in the group on method and process development.

    • Travels to local sites and industrial settings (<10%) may be expected. Candidate must be physically capable of collecting samples and inspecting equipment in process areas, evaluating data, and coordinating the implementation of technical recommendations.

    • Acts responsible for establishing and supporting a safe work environment for work group members and contractors, and implements safety programs to address specific safety concerns within work group.

    Required Qualifications

    • A minimum of an Associates degree in a science related discipline/ Military Degree Equivalency (MDE) and 7 years of relevant work experience or high school diploma/GED and 9 years of relevant work experience.

    • Must be fluent in the English language.

    Preferred Skills

    • Bachelors degree in an analytical chemistry or a chemistry degree

    • Academic or industrial experience on polymer analytical techniques, such as rheology, optical imaging, density and spectroscopy, chromatography, titration

    • Excellent organizational and project management skills

    • Demonstrated experience in leading teams and facilitating group discussions

    • Experience in working with manufacturing plants and laboratories

    • Strong interpersonal skills

    • Familiarity with ODMS structure and related documentation
